Old Business

We finally received a letter from the Governor’s office after a rigorous effort was made to help us remain independent, keeping our fund’s finances from having to go through treasury.

RSA report provided- activity thru 12/31/24 shows total assets as $922,350.93

McCords Crossroads had some pushback from FEMA reimbursing their funds. We provided some documentation to FEMA to help them understand we are not a retirement program. Now FEMA will reimburse them approximately $22,000.

New Business

In keeping with the Governor’s directive to keep our bank account below $100,000 to remain independent from Treasury we would like to be able to move money as needed.

Motion made to allow Chairman and Vice Chairman to move funds, to RSA only at any time as necessary to comply with the Governor’s authorization by Commissioner Dale Wyatt.

Secretary will send notice to Commissioners when transfers are made.

The next AFABF meeting will be held on April 23, 2025. Internal Audit Committee will meet

April 23, 2025. Meetings will begin as soon as the Personnel Standards Commissioners meeting concludes.

Old Business

CavMac has completed their initial study. Commissioner Vaughan sent them a copy of House Bill 72. If this passes, we will go ahead and push it through adding those numbers to it, in addition to the Fire Marshal’s money. We are looking at an approximate benefit increase of

approximately $50. If the tag bill passes, as it is, the benefit could increase to approximately $225/mo.

We are outside of the recommended three-year process but with the potential for significant changes in the benefit pending, we will move forward once these funds are in place, which is expected to be very soon.

We are still in need of updated literature for sharing about the fund. Plans have previously been approved to get current one updated. Services with How Said (Mike Burnett) will be requested to complete this task.

To accommodate more accessibility for questions to be answered regarding information about the fund, it was discussed that the secretary, Catherine Burnett, receive a cell phone stipend and submit time worked outside of physical hours worked in the office.

Motion made to subscribe to Cognito software (approximately $15/mo) to streamline application process for members by Commissioner Dale Wyatt. Second by Billy Doss.

Old Business

Mike Burnett is updating fund brochure to include QR code. Online brochure will be housed on the website and able to be updated in real time. The option to print as needed is still available, but going forward we will have business cards for the commissioners with the QR code on them to help with marketing and questions out in the field, as well as direct potential members to the online application.

Cognito software requires a credit card for software purchases. Using a personal debit card is not an option. We will acquire a debit card from West Alabama Bank.

Catherine Burnett last pay increase was 2022. A proposal is offered for wage to increase from current wage of $20/hr to $25/hr.

Old Business

We received the contract back from the Governor’s office. Now we can formally approve the CavMac report at our January meeting.

We have received the debit card for our account, instituting an internal control for the card. The process to utilize the card includes a 2 signature process, as well as keeping it locked in the office.

New Business

Between now and Christmas we will move $60k from West Alabama to RSA as the bank balance approaches $100k.
